2009 H1N1(Swine Flu) Vaccines Approved

The Food and Drug Administration has approved four new vaccines for the prevention of 2009 H1N1 influenza, commonly called swine flu. In the production of the new vaccines, pharmaceutical manufacturers employed the same methods used to process seasonal flu vaccines. The federal government has ordered 195 million doses of H1N1 vaccine, and inoculations are set to begin in October. Though no one knows for sure how severe 2009 H1N1 influenza will be, so far this pandemic flu seems to have had similar effects to seasonal flu. Each year, seasonal flu hospitalizes approximately 200,000 people and causes 36,000 deaths in the United States.
